What is Support Coordination?

Well, Let me tell you…..

If you're part of Australia's neurodivergent community and connected with the NDIS, you may have heard of Support Coordination. It's considered a Capacity Building Support designed to help you understand and make the most of your NDIS funding, so you can work toward goals that matter to you—whether that's independence, wellbeing, education, or connection.

In 2023, the NDIS shared some proposed changes that could reshape what a Support Coordinator does in the future. But for now, the core purpose remains the same: to empower you to navigate the system with more clarity and choice, and to support you in making informed decisions that align with your unique strengths and needs.

BUT…..

I like to look at it a little differently
I’m basically your go-to support person for your NDIS plan and funding.

I’m here to help you find services and supports that feel right for you. If something feels off or a provider isn’t a good fit, I’ll pick up on it and if you’re not comfortable, I’ll speak up right then and there. Your comfort and safety matter most.

I can help connect you with people who can make life easier, like Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Support Workers, or Exercise Physiologists. Who you work with will depend on what’s in your NDIS plan and what you feel you need.

I also talk with your current supports and help them understand your plan and how to best support you.
I work with everyone involved to make sure they’re all on the same page and supporting you in a way that makes sense for how your brain works and what feels right for your life.

I help you use your funding in the right way but I also think outside the box. I can show you ways to use your plan that are still within NDIS rules, but maybe no one told you about before.
I can also help you keep track of your budget, so your funding lasts and works for you the way it should.

If you have NDIS Planning or Review Meetings coming up, I can join you (even on Teams) and help speak up for what you need. If you’re feeling unsure or unheard, I can be your voice until you feel ready to use your own.

I can also write reports or help gather information from your providers if it’s needed for reviews or plan changes always within my role and with your direction.

How Are You Different Though?
I’m Glad You Asked!!!

I like to think I am different to other Support Coordinators you may have encountered because I don’t just have “Professional Experience”! I personally have lived with Disabilities my whole life , Being “Neuro-Spicy” with ADHD, ODD, PTSD and BPD.
But also because I am a Parent of 2 children who both have (What I Like To Call) “Different Abilities”.
I grew up with my younger siblings also having “Different Abilities” as well as Cousins, Aunts and Uncles and now Nieces and Nephews also.
My “Life Experience” doesn’t just stop at “Different Abilities” either, I have Professional and Lived experience with the Elderly and also those with Chronic Illnesses.

Growing up 90% of the people who surrounded me where either in the Medical and Mental Health field or worked in Early Childhood Education and Care so to say that my career path may have been in my DNA is very likely.
My experiences range from Volunteering with the St John Ambulance as a Cadet through most of my childhood to working in Early Childhood Education and Care as a teenager.
Once my eldest child was Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in 2021 and starting our NDIS Journey, I decided to Educate myself on Everything NDIS and Disability related which has now lead me here.
Wanting nothing more then to give someone else the assistance, knowledge and support I was never offered when this journey started.
Everyone thinks that getting the Diagnosis is the hardest part, I say the hardest part is navigating the world once NDIS and other Supports and Therapies become available and necessary.
All of a sudden you’ve got things like Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Psychology, Behaviour Support, Physiotherapy, Paediatrician’s, Psychiatrist’s, Other Health Related Specialist Appointments, So Sooo Many Reports, Assessment’s, Recommendations, Questions from Therapists about what other involved Therapist’s are doing, and so much more. It starts to become a sea of Questions, Lots of other people and PAPERWORK, Oh So Much Paperwork it could be seen as a Fire Hazard!

I strongly believe that having the right Supports in place to support YOU navigate all of these things it becomes a lot easier to manage and will allow you to focus more on the important things like Enjoying your kids childhood, watching them hit those milestones you started to think where never going to be possible OR finally being heard as a human and not just the list of things you may be diagnosed with!

I am here to relieve as many stressors as I can within my scope and where you allow me!
